About

Lara Willows

I grew up in rural Alberta and developed an interest in what makes people tick at an early age. In order to pursue my passion for helping others I completed a degree in Psychology at Augustana University (U of A) and a Master's degree in Marital & Family Therapy from Loma Linda University.  After graduation, I registered as a Psychologist through the College of Alberta Psychologists . Since then I have worked in a variety of areas of psychology such as schools, private practice, working collaboratively with physicians in primary care, and working with non-profit organizations. Due to my rural location I have moved to a virtual practice model.

In addition to using evidence based treatments for ADHD, I bring experience working with many other issues including relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and grief.

Outside of work I like to spend time with my family, friends, cats and dogs, ride my horses, hike, travel and read. I love the Rocky Mountains and spend as much time as possible hiking, riding, and exploring in them.

**I am limiting new clients to those wanting support and guidance for symptoms of ADHD as well as those navigating hormonal issues in women and patients struggling with the effects of sexual abuse or trauma.

My Why...

My daughter, Natalia, was diagnosed with ADHD when she was in grade 6. If I'm honest, I had suspected for much longer. Over the years I have watched the effect of this neurobiological condition on my beautiful child. She has so many strengths- she is friendly, kind, smart, athletic, creative, empathetic and so much more- but other things- like focusing, managing her time, motivation, remembering details etc have been much, much harder for her. As she grew up I started learning more and more about ADHD and Executive Functioning in order to support her as much as  possible.  I became passionate about this topic and have become determined to build my expertise. As I started to work with clients with symptoms of ADHD I started to notice that like Natalia, many of my clients had many strengths and positive qualities while also being impacted

by their symptoms

Once I realized how passionate I was about ADHD and Executive Functioning, I decided to develop a specialty in the field. I have done this through:

  • professional trainings and certifications

  • countless hours spent listening to expert webinars and podcasts

  • many more hours spent reading articles and books- starting with books on evidence based treatment

  • developing and implementing a group for those struggling with symptoms of ADHD or Executive Functioning challenges.

  • learning from family, friends and clients who have been affected by symptoms of ADHD.
